The Thai Student Association in France was founded in 1923 (B.E. 2466), originally under the name “Samakyanukroh Association” (S.Y.A.M.) or *Association Siamoise d’Intellectualité et d’Assistance Mutuelle* (S.I.A.M.), which means the “Siamese Association for Intellectuality and Mutual Assistance.” The association invited His Royal Highness Prince Prajadhipok Sakdidej, the Prince of Sukhothai, to serve as the honorary president.

From the list of names and titles of the association’s presidents that have been gathered, it is evident that the association continuously carried out activities until 1936 (B.E. 2479). However, activities were interrupted during World War II. The association was re-established under the name “The Thai Student Association in France under Royal Patronage” in 1949 (B.E. 2492)
The Thai Student Association in France had been operating without legal entity status until 1986 (B.E. 2529). At that time, Mr. Suwit Mangkon, the president of the association’s executive committee, applied for the official registration of the association under the name “The Thai Student Association in France under Royal Patronage,” in accordance with the French law on associations (Law of July 1, 1901). The executive committee signed the necessary documents on December 5, 1986, and submitted them to French authorities on December 10, 1986. The establishment of the association was officially recognized and published in the French Government Gazette, Issue No. 1, on January 7, 1987.

Moreover, the registration of the association’s establishment was a continuation of efforts initiated by the executive committee of the association in 1974 (B.E. 2517). During a meeting held in Tours from July 1-6, 1974, a resolution was passed, authorizing the committee to proceed with this matter. The meeting also approved amendments to the association’s bylaws to align with French law. These amendments were translated by experts for use in the registration process. The executive committee of 1986 (B.E. 2529) used these documents and the revised bylaws, which had been approved during the general meeting in Tours, as the official governing regulations for the association.
